Falling In Love With A Faux Fur Coat

It happened before Christmas. Around November if I recall. I saw Maria rocking a faux fur coat on Instagram. Then Shelley. And here I was, having a big crush on a faux fur coat. I had one once, that I donated to a charity because considering my career path (finance you all), I though I would not get many occasions to wear it. And then that career path changed. Just so you know, it would happen now, I would not see it as a good excuse. Back to that faux fur coat.

I saw it, I wanted it, I dreamed of it.

But…

I had just moved to London, paid a deposit, a month rent upfront, agency fees, train tickets, postage and transport for my boxes. In other words, I was super broke. No way I could afford that coat.

Fortunately, Christmas was coming. So when my grandparents asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I sent them the link to the faux fur. Their reaction?

What matters is that you like it.”

So clearly, they hated it. But oh well, tastes and colors.

The had it shipped to Germany where I was celebrating Christmas and here it was waiting for me by the tree. How exciting! I was finally getting my hands on this beauty. While my boyfriend’s mum loved it, his reaction was not so enthusiastic.

Again, clearly, not his cup of tea. He did not say anything but I could read it on his face. Like, he won’t walk on the same side of the road when I wear the fur. Just kidding. Or not.

Bless him.

Good for me, I had his mum on my side. That counts! Not the first time a loved ones did not understand my fashion sense. Never stopped me before! Not gonna start now, am I right?! Now I also have to be honest. I grew up in France where faux fur coats are pejoratively associated with prostitutes. Yes, that’s right. So it was quite hard for me to pull the courage needed to actually wear it. Even when I came back to the UK after the holiday. It stayed in my cupboard for two weeks before I finally decided to wear it.

Time to dare. After the leather skirt comes the faux fur coat!

And I think I did well! I wear it with a pair of jeans and trainers when I go to work. But you can also style it up. A skater dress, ankle boots and a bag will do just fine! What do you think?faux fur coat
