An Easy Natural Makeup Look With Avril Cosmétiques

An Easy Natural Makeup Look

Makeup is not my strong suit. First, I did not grow up in a household where it was important. My mother barely ever wears makeup. Second, I grew up in a society where an easy natural makeup look is the norm. By that I mean the Parisian chic minimalist no-makeup makeup look that consists in some BB Cream on the skin, a bit of mascara and red lipstick. You got it, my makeup skills are close to non-existent. Even though… after starting my blog and shooting outfits, I started to get more into makeup.

Don’t get your hopes too high though.  My upbringing must have formatted very well indeed because even on a photoshoot, at a blogger event or at a wedding,  I still sport that easy natural makeup look. I ditch the simple mascara look for a slightly more sophisticated eyeliner but the essence remains.  It is a very simple very natural makeup look. It took me a while though, to nail the eyeliner application. Even to this day, sometimes, I fail, have one side bigger than the other, and need to start from scratch.

Now, since my makeup education is very poor, I do not know much about makeup brands either. Beyond the most famous brands that we see everywhere. Fortunately, a friend of mine who is vegetarian and cruelty-free educated me on the matter of vegan makeup. An easy natural makeup look is great. A minimalist makeup look that uses vegan, organic and cruelty-free cosmetic brands is even better. Better for everyone. For the planet, for the animals, for you.

The question that may remain then is how to find high quality cruelty-free products that are also affordable. Vegan products take longer to make and have more complex processes since they need to go around using animal by-products or testing on animals. That’s how I stumbled upon Avril Cosmétiques: cruelty-free, vegan, organic and oh-so cheap!

Avril Cosmétiques is a French beauty brand created in 2012. They have one objective: make organic makeup affordable for all women. As a matter of fact, their four core values are: quality, ecology, price and service. Each product must be easy to use and is subjected to strict controls by an independent organization. 95% of the ingredients are organic and they don’t test on animals. Organic, vegan and cruelty free. They also don’t do advertising, which is the main reason why their products are so cheap.

The brand was kind enough to send me some products to review: a lipstick, a mascara, a black pencil, an eyeliner and a BB cream. The total would be €31 or £27. Again, I am no expert in makeup and beauty brands. However, I think that £27 for five makeup products that are also organic, cruelty-free and vegan is a pretty good bargain. I created an easy natural makeup look with the products they sent. You can see a before/after below. Don’t pay attention to the difference in lighting. I took the first picture with my iPhone and the second with my camera.

I can say that the products are all super easy to apply, and as much to remove. The pigments of the pencil stick really well on the eyelid and they are really strong. Adding the eyeliner on top was so easy. I always struggle with applying eyeliner. You know, the symmetry and application issues: too big, too thick, is it the same on both sides, etc. However, in that case, it went off without a hitch: quick and easy; because of the perfect thickness and flexibility of the brush. The mascara separates eyelashes really well, so another win I guess.

Now, let’s move onto the BB cream. I don’t usually put anything on my face. I don’t have time in the morning and I would have no idea where to start anyway. Foundation and concealers are almost unknown territories to me. The advantage of a BB cream is that you apply it just like any other face cream with an added value: it also acts a bit like a foundation. In the present case, the BB cream hid most of my skin flaws while giving the feeling that I was not wearing anything. Hence the natural no-makeup makeup look.

Let’s finish with the lipstick. I always go for bright colors when it comes to lipsticks. My skin is a bit tanned and I have dark eyes so I always thought it would create a nice contrast. When I wear lipstick, red, orange and fuchsia are my go-to colors. However, this time, I chose to try something else: plum purple. I love how bright it looks on me and how smooth the texture was. Easy to apply, easy to remove, another winner.

Just so you know, I usually suck at putting makeup on. The only thing I can do – and that I also fail most of the time – is to draw that line with eyeliner on my eyelid. So now you understand why I am so pleased with this easy natural makeup look with Avril Cosmétiques.

Did you know about the brand? Have you tried any of their product? Will you know? Have you already struggled with finding cruelty-free, affordable and high-quality beauty products? What do you think of Avril Cosmétiques?

I love that these products are easy to apply and to remove. I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup but, when I do, I like to make sure my skin is really clean and clear of it afterwards.

I love Brands with a purpose, that think about their impact on the world around them. Avril seems like they offer some really great options and looks like a quality product.

Thanks gor sharing another makeup product review and am glad this is cruelty free. Most of brands are not because they are cutting costs. The quality looks so good too!

I used bb cream a few yrs ago & don’t remember my experience w/it. I just know it’s a great pick me up for when you don’t feel like putting on foundation.

I would like to try their cosmetics too. The mascara looks really helpful, by just looking at its wand. And, above all, it is affordable.
