Who has not spend a weekend binge-watching a new (or old) TV show? We all did, no need to deny it! And what happens when you have gone through all the episodes? Well, you look for something else to watch! And just in case you are looking for something far away from Riverdale, Gossip Girl, Friends and the likes, here are 5 shows that I am sure you will love!
1. Altered carbon
Altered carbon is the latest original Netflix show. I binge-watched it in a weekend, hooked from the first episode. I don’t want to spoil or ruin the show for you so I won’t tell much about the plot. The show takes place in a sort of dystopian future where people have achieved immortality through what they call a stack containing their memory. They can take off that stack of their body and put into another. So they never die. Although the ethic questions about immortality are asked in the show, it does not only revolves around it but focuses on the main character’s journey to solve a murder. I was super excited when I saw the trailer and the show does not disappoint!
2. The 100
The show has been around for a few years already. I have to be honest, when it started I really wondered if it was gonna be a cliché of a show where super attractive teenager are being sent off to an unlivable earth to show off their perfectly muscled bodies. Then, the story became more complex, the characters more interesting, the stakes higher. What I love about this show is that nothing is black or white, it is always more complex. There are no bad guys but just people who want to protect their own. And most importantly, both genders are treated in the same way in the show. Gaze-wise I mean. There are naked bodies and explicit scenes BUT we see them in both men and women’s eyes, which is quite refreshing. The season 5 is starting very soon, just saying!
3. Madam Secretary
If you are looking for a show with not only one female lead but many kick-ass women at the wheel, then Madam Secretary is for you. Of course, the show taking place in Washington, the US is kinda glorified a bit there. BUT it is great to see a smart, strong and determined women who also have weaknesses doing great. And sending a strong message to girls. Because this is actually what happens quite often in the show! I love that she is not portrayed as a superwoman but as a human being who sometimes needs help and that she (or any other characters – including male characters) are never shamed for that. And it is nice to see a woman running the world for once! The season 4 is out although we have to wait March 11th for the second half!
4. The Good Place
The Good Place is just so good, I could not leave it out of this list! I love how diverse the cast is (although it annoys me that Jason is so stupid) and how funny situations are. Also, it is a show where things are not all black and white and where bad people can change and turn good, where forgiving mistakes and giving a second chance are a key focus of the plot. And where you realize that even the “good” ones have some darkness in them. So yeah, it is definitely a must-see if you want to have a good time. There are two seasons on Netflix already and each episode is 20 minutes long so I guess you have your weekend sorted!
5. Blue Planet
Blue Planet is the most beautiful show I have ever watched. The images are gorgeous, the colors stunning and the stories hypnotizing. Also, I have a weak spot for David Attenborough’s voice. Yes, I love it a lot: his voice is so soothing. And I binge-watches both seasons. The first one is on Netflix. If you are upset, depressed, annoyed or have any other unpleasant feeling, watch this. The beauty of nature will stun you and you will feel much better! And David’s voice! His voice! Am I the only one who thinks his voice is amazing?!
Have you watched any of these? Or heard of? Would you give them a go? What TV shows are you loving at the moment? Anything unusual? Any recommendation?
Thanks for reading. Hope you liked this post.
See you soon,
Love,
Corinne
I love the Blue Planet. The quality of the shots and all the diversity of each episode is so captivating! I’ve seen the Good Place on Netflix but it didn’t really tell me much. Good to hear that it’s interesting.
Hi, we loved watching Blue Planet I shall be checking out Altered Carbon.
I love The Good Place! The characters are all so unique, and I love how they present philosophical topics in a super light hearted way. It’s a really clever show and a bunch of my friends have binge watched it on my recommendation already 😀
