Did you know? Blue was not always a colour for boys? Boys were dressed in pink because it was a more decided and stronger color, more suitable for the boys, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girls. It is the 50s that manufacturers decided to make blue for the boys and pink for the girls. And from there on, colours got a gender, a sexuality and a whole lot of stereotypes associated to them.
I mean, why would you give a colour a gender? It is just a colour. The only thing you’ll achieve is put labels on colours, hence on people and develop stupid standards of who needs to be what. Growing in a family of five kids, I was wearing all colours and my brothers wearing my old baby clothes, they were too. I wear blue, they wear pink nowadays. We all turned out well I think.
I do think blue is the perfect color for spring and summer.
It’s bright, it’s fresh, it pops up. Because it’s a light colour, it sends the sun rays back and does not make you too warm. What else makes blue so perfect? It has so many different shades that can be styled all together for a great look. And so I did.
This outfit would have been perfect should the sun had shown itself more often while Ana and I were staying at Borgo Casa Al Vento… Or when we were in Tuscany in general! Escaping the bad English weather to find… bad Italian weather. It was just down to timing though… The weeks before and after were stunning!
The outfit was still good despite the weather. But judge for yourself.
The base of this outfit is a black bandeau dress that is simple yet elegant and so easy to accessorize, with a blue biker jacket that I bought two years ago in Zara. I accessorized those two pieces with this amazing silk scarf that Basma Design so kindly sent me, this necklace and tea bag that I borrowed from Ana. I broke the rule saying that you should not go for more than two colors on one single outfit with those amazing pom pom sandals. They are just little additions of colours so I think it’s all fine!
Now, I need to find another occasion to wear those sandals!
Taken separately, all the pieces in this outfit – expect for the sandals – are pretty basic but it is styling them all together that gives a nice and stylish outfit!
