A Retrospective Of The Year 2018

retrospective

How fast has 2018 gone? I know, I have already asked. Repeating myself here, because, really, I can’t believe it! One day it was January, the next I was traveling to Corsica in August and the following day, well, it was Christmas! This year has run by so quick. Probably because so much happened in 2018.

Actually, and despite some not always so happy events, 2018 has been my best year so far! It has gone by in a flash and I did not see it go, although some pretty intense things happened for me. So here’s a retrospective of my year 2018 for you!

A Retrospective of 2018 month by month

January

After spending Christmas in Germany for the first time, I am back in Edinburgh to celebrate New Year’s Eve. I stay up there in Scotland until the 7th of January. I am back to work in London and ready to start my second month at my new job. January is pretty quiet actually, nothing major happens. A brand had sent me some fashion pieces for the first time, thus January marked the beginning of me creating more fashion content. However, in general, blogging, event or even life-wise, January is very chilled and quiet. Which is a good thing as I am just back and need some time to adjust to a new job, a new flat and a new city. And a bigger distance relationship. Because, yes, my boyfriend still lives in Edinburgh.

February

I meet Ana for the first time at the Very Valentine’s Day blogger event. We had been talking on Instagram for some time now and she offered to take me as her plus one. Not something I usually do but sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone. Thus, I say yes and here were the premises of our friendship. February is emotionally heavy, I have to admit. I feel like I am doing all the work for two. Yet, I have to share all the rewards 50-50. Not so fair if you want my opinion. A very old friendship is becoming so toxic I need to put an end to it. The break up leads to the end of Corinne & Kirsty but the beginning of What Corinne Did. And oh god, it feels amazingly good! The blog takes off rapidly. My boyfriend starts looking for jobs in London so that we can live together. He comes down for his first interview.

March

I meet Helen for the first time, who becomes a friend and a brunch pal. I am making blogger friends! And feeling much better than in Manchester. What Corinne Did is doing relatively well despite its very young age. Turns out, blogging for one is easier than blogging for two, on every aspect. I start to focus more on my Instagram and have my first fashion photoshoot in Shoreditch. In March, I help organize my first blogger event for my company – a sleepover in a hotel and a Easter egg hunt. I go home in Normandy for Easter. A four day weekend that feels very good. Work become more serious, with goals and strategies being put in place.

April

I go on my first press trip with Ana. We fly to Florence for a week stay in Tuscany. She won a stay at a villa in Chianti for a week. Lecchi in Chianti to be more precise. Wine, pasta, not so much sun, loads of history, the week is dedicated to blogging but is a breeze of fresh air! I think this trip is when I get more serious about blogging and start getting more fashion collaborations. I shoot a lot of outfits and fashion content,so I decide to fully make the switch. Best decision ever! As a result, my content has also improved a lot. Back in London, Ana and I decide to become each other’s photographer, which allows me to push a lot more fashion content even! And has a butterfly effect, having me work with more fashion brands.

May

Blogging gets busier. More collaborations, more events. It seems that brands now know I am living in London. My photos are very street style, mainly taken in Shoreditch with street art. Philip comes to London for a second job interview. Philip and I go on a spontaneous long weekend trip to Copenhagen and have an absolute blast. What a gorgeous city! What an amazing weather too! My most performing Instagram photo is taken in Copenhagen. Like the previous months, I still spend at least a weekend in Edinburgh. Most of my blog content is fashion, although I do some travel content, but nothing major. I reach 15000 on Instagram.

June

I turn 26. A quarter of my life is behind me. My boyfriend and I both take days off to have a long weekend in London. He takes me to the Lion King musical, which was the best thing I have ever been to. We spend the weekend cycling around London, in the sun, drinking cocktails at the terrace. It feels super good. The job hunt in London is not going so well so there are talks of New York. June is a very good month at work. I go to more blogger events, enjoy the sun in the capital, shoot more street style content. We plan a holiday in Corsica.

July

July is so hot in London. I know all British people complain but I am loving this weather. Little dresses, sandals, bare legs, drinks outside. Such a good summer. July is very good at work too. Although most of my weekends are busy with photoshoots or spent in Edinburgh. My Instagram becomes much more colorful, my engagement gets better and my following grows steadily. I assume the quality of the photos is that reason. On the first week of July, I celebrate my birthday with my friends. The next day, I go to Tunbridge Wells to pick up Gingembre, my ginger kitten! Whom I bring to work, which delights my colleagues! He becomes our work mascot. He is too cute for his own good.

August

Even though I love fashion content, I start thinking of baking and food content. Sporadically, I bake something and decide to put it on the blog. I start thinking of my Christmas content as I really want November and December to be Christmas focused. The kitten is getting used to his new home but oh god, it’s like having a child! Wave goodbye to your good night sleep! My boyfriend flies to New-York for an interview. He gets the job the next day! We go to Corsica for a week holiday with my family. I am lucky enough to be sent most outfits for my holiday. Which also means, I still need to do some work, but it’s fine. I create a lot of content in Corsica and my sister is my reluctant photographer.

September

I am back at work with some major projects to take care off. I am working on my Christmas content, which mainly is baking. And I really enjoy it so decide that after Christmas, I will focus on both fashion and baking. It would seem that I have finally found my niche. Fashion and baking don’t usually go together, but maybe that will help me stand out from the competition? My boyfriend accepts the job in New York, but the issue of a working visa for me appears. I start looking for jobs in New York. My Instagram content becomes much more colorful as Ana and I use floral displays in London as backgrounds.

October

I help organize my second blogger event at work. It is a cocktail masterclass, is small and intimate but goes very smoothly. I go to a lot of blogger events and most of my weekends are actually work – blog and Instagram work. I slow down with my freelance job but do more for the blog and Instagram. Gingembre turns six months old. What a cutie. But also, what a psychopath! And an infinite source of entertainment. He is the cutest but will definitely not make a good indoor cat. Not sure what to think about it. I am too scared of cars to let him out. But at the same time, he becomes more and more active so needs a way to use all that energy! MAJOR NEWS THOUGH – I get engaged!

November

Organization for the wedding starts. It will happens in Edinburgh, in January 2018. The registry I mean. The proper big party will happen in France in three years time, when we get back to Europe. Gingembre becomes an outdoor cat. He stays outside during the day, which means that when he comes home, he is so tired, he sleeps through the night. Like a kid, I told you! My Christmas content starts going out. I have loved baking and taking the photos. My biggest baking accomplishment to date is a gingerbread wreath! I help organize my third blogger event of the year, and this time it is a massive party with 200 influencers! November is so busy work, blogging and life-wise that I am tired and stressed all the time, although still have a blast. Some major fashion brands work with me, I am so honored and hope it will carry on.

December

I reach 19000 on Instagram. Maybe I’ll be at 25000 same time next year. I love my Instagram content at the moment – so colorful! I do some food sponsored blog posts – popcorn cakes and candy cane vodka. We go buy our wedding rings! Exciting! Despite a drone mess in London and the yellow vest in Paris, I make it back home for Christmas. I realize how stressful and exhausting the past three months have been and this two weeks break is much needed! I try to stay away from social media as much as possible during the break. And also worry less about my stats. I decide to hire an actual photographer in January and see what gets out of it. I am hoping to get more urban content with greater depth of field so that there is a smooth transition when I move to New York. Turns out the big apple does not have that many floral displays!

Overall, 2018 has been an absolute blast and very good to me. I have worked with a lot of amazing brands this year, created content I am very proud of, and I hope 2019 will be even better! Work wise, I have had a blast too, did some pretty cool things and hope 2019 will be just as fun! I don’t often do a year in review but with everything that happened this year, I thought it’d be a good idea!

It’s fun to think about the year in review. My kids will often say we didn’t do anything, and we will look through the photos on my phone and I can list off all the places we visited and so on. Sounds like you have had a busy year 🙂
