Make Denim A Fall Essential*

fall essential

Every time I want to write about fall, this weather reminds me that it has not started yet. Which is sort of ironic. Back in the UK, I would pray for summer to go on and bless us with mild temperatures. Here in New York, after four months of days with 25 to 40°C, I am begging autumn to come round. But maybe 25°C is what the east coast considers fall? Who knows? Not me. But either way, while in England I would have traded light dresses for chunky coats, here in New York, I am just adding a denim jacket… and making it a fall essential.

Hear me out.

Autumn officially starts in a week. But I highly doubt that temperatures will drop super suddenly to below 15°C, forcing me to get my winter coat out. No. How I see it, the weather will progressively worsen, temperature will slowly decrease and will give us all time (us in NYC I mean) to make a smooth transition to fall fashion. I already talked about it previously but I think back then, I went a bit ahead of myself!

So I had to backtrack a bit, accept that I won’t have autumn any time soon in the US like the UK does and that I need to adapt. Also, that my wardrobe will have to adapt too. No need to be petty and throw all the summer clothes away in the closet. No. I’ll keep those on and will make a tiny teeny addition. A denim jacket.

A denim jacket that is going to be a fall essential.

I have all sorts at home. A classic, that I have had for 3 years now. A crop oversized, fresh from the beginning of summer. And a stylish oversized belted one kindly sent my way by Lily Lulu Fashion. Along with the entire outfit.

Just to show you one way to accessorize the jacket.

And also to show you that a very simple little white dress, a summer dress perfect for warm temperature, can just as well do the trick while transitioning to fall. Or in general. Because why not wear the dress with tights? Then you can also show it off in winter!

Remember, there are no rules.

To me a denim jacket is more than a fall essential. Or an essential at all. It is a piece of clothing that has a long history and that is so versatile. Especially when one style can be worn in many different ways and give different directions to an outfit.

On a floral print tea dress, you’ve got a spring/summer look. With a tank top and a skater dress, you get that oh so 70s look. Even better if you have a bandana to put in your hair. With black slim trousers and a basic tee, you’ve got a very casual outfit. Belted on a white dress and you’ve got something very stylish!

What do you think? Should denim be a fall essential? And an autumn wardrobe staple? Do you own a denim jacket? How often do you wear it? What do you think of this outfit?

Thanks a lot for stopping by. Hope you liked this post.

See you soon,
Love,

I always find it interesting to see what trends will come back into style – I can remember when jean jackets were all the rage, and can’t wait to see how people spin that trend this season!

Yess this look is excellent! I love how you’re keeping summer going with the white dress.
I always pull out my denim jacket before my big coat, although it so cold up here in the North of England that I tend to end up with it layered over a hoodie by mid-October.

How funny to read this post because literally last weekend I dug out my old denim jacket from storage. I’d forgotten what a staple it is (goes with trousers, skirts, dresses) and how easy it is to dress up or down. Love your one though, the style is gorgeous! Lisa x

New York is having a fun time with random temperatures being thrown in, one day it’s humid and the next it’s super chilly! I think the temperature will slowly decrease for a little while and then suddenly a massive drop. Finding the perfect denim jacket is so hard, I’m always on the lookout for one! I would think that denims should be a fall essential only because it’s not cold enough for a full on jacket but it’s also cold enough to want a jacket – loved your outfit!

I love how this jacket has the tie on the waist, I find a lot of demin jackets too boxy to be flattering on my shape but I think this one would look really nice. I don’t think I own a demin jacket anymore, I have an oversized denim shirt that I throw on as a light jacket a lot in summer though x

I love a nice denim jacket for fall and any other season if I’m honest, you’ve styled it so well and it looks great paired with this dress especially because of the tie waist which is so flattering too! Thanks for sharing x

In London, we’re also experiencing weird in-between weather, and as much as I (like you) want to move over to fall now, I’m having to find weird “transitional” pieces, and my denim jacket has been a big one!
